How to Watch New Movies for Free or Less

Movie TheaterEveryone loves a good movie and good movies are even better when they are free or at least discounted. There are a multitude of ways to find great deals on movie tickets but here are a few that I like. You may find some other ways to save money on movie tickets.

Look for Free Tickets Online Services like Fandango sometimes offer free movie giveaways. Most of the time you’ll probably just be offered discounted tickets but these can be great deals too.

Buy Discounted Tickets If you cannot get free tickets companies like Regal Cinema Group may sell discounted tickets on their Websites. If you live near a BJs, Costco, or Sam’s Club you may be able to purchase discounted tickets there, too.

Write Movie Reviews The competition for movie-related content on Websites is now so fierce that many companies are offering to reimburse viewers for the cost of their tickets if they write reviews. You may be able to find a regular gig reviewing movies.

Join Theater Rewards Clubs I know that AMC and Regal both offer reward clubs. You earn points with every purchase and eventually you get free tickets, drinks, food, or multi-dollar discounts on purchases. Even if you don’t use all the rewards sooner or later the rewards card will pay for itself.

Older Viewers and Students Often Get Discounts Theater operators like AMC Theaters often provide discounts to military, senior, and student patrons. Check your local theater to see what discounts are available to you.

Watch a Matinee Some theater chains, like AMC, still offer matinee pricing early in the morning. Usually the first showing of the day is offered at about half price, which is even better than buying discount tickets. Typical movie matinee times range from 10 AM to 11:50 AM in my experience.

Buy 100 Tickets at a Time Bulk discounts may vary by chain, but the idea is that if you buy enough tickets all at once you’ll get a great price. Theaters make most of their money on the drinks, candy, and food anyway. So if you and your friends are hard-core movie watchers buying a year’s worth of tickets in advance may save you all a lot of money.
